Parallel Park is poorly named; everyone who goes there agrees. This is mostly because the amorphous green shape it cuts into the otherwise metal and asphalt face of the city is far too blob-like and indeterminate to sit parallel (or perpendicular) to anything. If you squint hard enough, maybe you call it Kitty-Corner Park given that the river is a few scant blocks southwest. But Kitty-Corner Park makes it sound like a euphemistic final resting place for overly-beloved house cats, not a series of carefully constructed patches of grass, man-made hills, and a few clusters of age-old trees.
Despite it being unfortunately named (though not as unfortunately as it could have been, people agree) it is makes for a decent day's worth of people watching as both tourists and locals filter through at all hours. There's a dog park and jungle gym and a man name Javier whose hot dog stand has become something of a local institution. (His decade-long rivalry with Karl the Koffee Guy down on Fourth is legendary around these parts.)
On Saturdays there's a smattering of street performers and even a small cadre of amateur circus clowns. On Sundays there's roller disco.
It's nice.
